WHO WE ARE
OKEANIS is a California non-profit organization based in Moss Landing, at the heart of Monterey Bay. In Greek mithology, Okeanis was one of the daughters of King Poseidon and, with this name, we want to emphasize the dedication of this organization to the ocean and all its inhabitants. Okeanis was founded in October 2006.
Okeanis engages in long-term research that focuses on understanding the social structure and unique cultural identity of specific populations of marine mammals, and is committed to be an ambassador of the beauty and uniqueness of each individual animal
inhabiting the world’s ocean.
OUR MISSION
OUR VISION
The vision of Okeanis is to inspire people to look at other species with a different ethical eye, recognizing the inherent right of individual animals to a world that meets their needs, and recognizing the 'individuality' of each animal and the contributions of each individual animal to its own social constructs.
